Strong boost for Nancy Beninati
Editor,
I am writing to support Nancy Beninati for Piedmont City Council.
I joined the Piedmont Police Department in 2014 and had the honor of serving as Piedmont’s Police Chief from 2016 until my retirement in 2025.
I worked with Nancy on racial and identity profiling and police reform. As a Supervising Deputy Attorney General at the California Department of Justice, Nancy has extensive experience in law enforcement and public safety. I found her to be smart, thoughtful, and collaborative, and she was always willing to share her expertise and help our Police Department.
In 2020, Nancy and I presented together at a Piedmont community forum on police reform. She also joined me as my guest at a meeting of the Alameda County Police Chiefs, where she presented on racial and identity profiling. I saw firsthand her ability to bring her legal and policy expertise to important and sometimes difficult issues while working constructively with law enforcement and the community.
Nancy understands the importance of both public safety and strong community relationships. I believe her experience would be valuable on Piedmont’s City Council.
I encourage Piedmont voters to vote for Nancy.
